In 1987 Stephen Roche won cycling's 'triple crown' - returning from a season blighted by injury, he defied all odds to triumph at the Giro d'Italia, Tour de France and World Championships in the same year. Only one other cyclist in history, Eddy Merckx, has ever achieved this.
