About Us

A passion for books and a passion for collecting fine editions was the recipe that created the successful group of bookshops in Johannesburg called Bookdealers.

The group started thirty years ago with one store in the quirky Johannesburg suburb of Yeoville and has grown through the years to a total of five shops, plus this web site.

Bookdealers is well-known for its collectable and used books. We also have a large variety of remaindered books sourced from around the world.

You can buy directly through this website, and have the option of having books posted to you, or of collecting them from one of our branches in Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa.

 

 

We offer delivery via air mail to most countries. Quotes for courier shipment are available on request.

 

 

Memberships

We list many of our books on the Bid or Buy web site, so if you are in South Africa and prefer to use this platform, you'll still have access to most of our books.

We are members of SABDA the Southern African Book Dealers Association. SABDA is the official body for out-of-print book dealers in Southern Africa. It aims to improve standards of professional service to customers and allow members to speak with one voice on matters of common concern.

 

Payments

We use the PayFast payment gateway, which offers secure credit card transactions. This means we never get to see your credit card details, but PayFast notifies us as soon as payment has been made. In addition to Visa and MasterCard, you can also pay by means of Bitcoin or "InstantEFT", which is a facility for customers of certain South African banks only.

Bitcoin is a secure electronic currency that can be used to send anonymous payments, in this case directly to PayFast by means of the bitx.co.za exchange. This means you can use your Bitcoin wallet to pay for your favourite books as part of the checkout process.
