Ploughing Amongst the Stones

The policy of 'Betterment', which was implemented in the Zoutpansberg area in the 1930s and 1940s, sought to alienate people from their land. It caused much bitterness and suffering among the people who were affected by it.
Using oral and written sources, Thaithu Nemutanzhela tells the story of how the policy was implemented and the role of the Zoutpansberg Cultural Association in supporting the people's fight for their right to land. It also raises important issues for further research into the history of land allocation and division in the area.
